The York County Beekeepers Association sponsors several types of events:

Regular club meetings 

Regular club meetings are held from 6:30 – 8:30 PM on the second Monday of every month, September through May at the Nasson Community Center located at 457 Main Street, Springvale (unless announced otherwise).

Meetings review club business and news, feature guest lecturers, demonstrations, and opportunities to socialize with fellow beekeepers.

Non-member visitors are welcome to attend regular club meetings – contact a club officer to arrange your visit.

Open Hive Sessions

“Open Hive” sessions are typically held during the months of May through September – as weather allows – at various club-members bee yards.

An open hive is an educational opportunity for members to see an experienced beekeeper inspect and work a hive, explain what they are seeing, how the hive should be managed, and why. Should we see potential problems, we discuss what options exist to resolve the situation.

Sessions may include information about any of the following: how to approach a hive, how to light a smoker, seasonal concerns, swarm management, making splits, making hives or nucleus hives, rearing queens, mite detection, disease detection, feeding, or medication. Open hive sessions meet-up at 10:00 AM to socialize and prepare, begin inspecting hives at 10:30 AM, and are followed with a pot-luck lunch. These sessions offer ample opportunities to visit and talk with other beekeepers.

Other types of past events and planned, future events include various kinds of educational workshops and field days. Other events sponsored by other groups such as the Maine State Beekeepers Association’s “Annual Meeting and Conference” may also be presented here.
